Northland Journal Covers & Logo

Hello!  Been a while since I last posted anything, sorry about that!  Here are two more covers that I have done for the Northland Journal, and also the logo I did as well.  

The Logo went through several ideas, from having a maple leaf, to a quill and ink bottle.  But in the end we decided something simple worked the best and the mountains add just a hint of the Vermont flair that we were looking for.  The plan is to use the logo on various things like t-shirts, mugs, etc. 

de la Bruere for State Representative

This year there are two seats opening for State Representative in the district I live in.  Tim is going to run, and we are gearing up to start the campaign.  The election will be in November, so this summer will be busy!  Here is the logo I made for him,  and check out his FB Page to keep up to date with the campaign.

Shops at the EastSide

As you know I have been doing work for the EastSide Restaurant, where I also work in the gift shop.  There are really three stores there, Giftwrecked the shop, the Bakery, and the Clothing Boutique.  I did a new logo for the Shops at the EastSide, and also made a Facebook Page, where you can keep in touch with specials and sales.

Included in the shops is a Bridal Boutique and Prom Dress / Tuxedo Rentals.  Here are some of the ads and posters I have been doing to promote the business.

Ray's Electric

Logo and business card for Ray's Electric.  I'm also working on logos and business cards for the restaurant gift shop where I've been working this summer.  Now that the summer rush is winding down, I plan on getting some more paintings done too.  

Butterworks Farm

I recently did a logo design for Butterworks Farm, a local dairy farm in the area.  This design will be on their 5lb grain bags.  

The granary building was a fairly new construction and they wanted it shown in a drawn by pen and ink style.  The farm is really beautiful and very Vermontish, here are some pictures of it.

Logo for East Hill Maple, I never really know much about sugaring before, it is quite an impressive operation.  We just tapped a few trees around the neighborhood today, amazing that you can make something so tasty out of tree insides! 

Catching Up

Hi again, the past year has been quite a busy one, starting a new job which kept me very busy and is partly to blame for my absence here.  Working on my office computer all day, when I came home I didn't really have much motivation to be on the one at home.  The things I worked on ranged from clothing tags, packaging design, logos, web layouts, advertisements,  business cards, and more.

And another thing that happened this year was I got married.  So there was a lot of planning and things that required attention.  Naturally I had to design something to make the wedding more personal.  So here are the things I worked on, invitations, save the date magnet, wedding CD favor, and also the wedding photo album. 

 

New Job!

Hello all, sorry I haven't been around as much, but I finally have some good news, I have a job! And it's a real Graphic Design job too, after I finished school this summer I have been on the job hunt for a while. Searching for a job is not that east now a days. I am working at Codet, a company that is both is the U.S. and in Canada, they do a lot of work clothes, and hunting gear. Some of the names they produce are Big Bill, Wood N Trail, and Hot Rod. I just finished the first full week there, and I worked on a camouflage pattern for Wood N Trail, and also an ad for a magazine. I am also working on clothing tags for a new line, I will post the progress during this week.

Promo Posters

These are some promo posters I have worked on for Jay Peak, they wanted three images, the mountain, a skier and a snowboarder. The images where to be the main focus, and I used the logo and tag line in two variations. I'm still waiting to hear back as to which they will choose and if I need to make any changes to them.

OCDC Logo

I volunteered to create a logo for the Orleans County Democratic Committee, whose meetings I have been attending with Tim. So here is what I came up with, using the initials OCDC, to have a simple and graphic symbol that hopefully will become recognizable as the committee works over the years to come.

A Mood Board

This is a mood board. We had to make one for class. You pick 16 colors that you feel match you well, then three of your best designs, that show who you are as a designer. And then 10 adjectives that describe you, and images that also represent you. It was fun making it, you all should try one too!

Brooks Ad 3

Here is a third Brooks Running ad for the MOGO Biodegradable sole. It is fun posting them on the Zooppa site, so far I have been getting good comments, and it is fun being able to follow other people's designs. I started my Interactive Portfolio class Monday, and it is going to be some work. I'll be basically making a website portfolio for myself, so it should be fun, but all that html stuff confuses me!

What Can Your Sneakers Grow?

Greetings to you all! Well we are about 60% moved to the downstairs, we have a few more rooms to completely clear, and then we have to clean upstairs really good and paint some walls. The new tenet moves in on the 20th. And my next class starts on monday, so having some extra time this week I finally started working on some things for this really cool website. It is called Zooppa and its a site that various companies come to with ideas for products, and members of the site can design video, print, and banner ads for them.
What you do is create a profile, and then look through the various competitions going on, and if you see one that sparks your creative juices, design something, and upload it. Once your ad is uploaded, everyone can see it, and vote on it. The more votes you get, the higher in rank it moves up. Once the competition ends, the ads with the highest rankings get Zooppa bucks. Once you reach 1,000 Zooppa bucks, you can transform it into dollars. So if you get 1,000 Zooppa bucks, you get $1,000. Ofcourse it is not a given that you will even win anything, and prizes range in amount, the company also awards ads that they may like that the rest of the community didn't. I think this is a great site, it gives you a project brief, just like working with a real client, and it also connects you with other designers, and you get to see some great minds at work.
I entered my first competition today, for Brooks Running Shoes. They have a new product called BioMoGo, the first-ever biodegradable running shoe midsole. -"BioMoGo’s microbial munch rate is a staggering 50 times faster, biodegrading nutrients into reusable byproducts within 20 years! That means that within 20 years time, Brooks alone will save 29.9 million pounds of landfill waste." - So I created this print ad, featuring the Cascadia 4 running shoe. I took a picture from a XC race of myself, and made it into a flower person. So the idea is once the sneaker degrades, what will grow from it? Maybe a running flower person? The competition goes until May 7th, and you can submit as many ads as you want, I definately want to do some more, any ideas...?

Final Projects

Hello! Today I finished my Advanced Computer Graphics course, although I am not sure if I learned too much in the ways of advanced graphics. Our project was to design a direct mail campaign for a non-profit organization. I choose the Memphremagog Arts Collaborative, and each fall they have an event called Art On Main. The whole main street is closed and artists can set up booths to sell things, and there are concerts through out the day. I decided to do a postcard for the mailer, I had the idea of framing main street and showing it as "art."

This is an actual picture of Newport's Main Street, I used Photoshop to get the painted effect, and I added the lamp post and banner. I used Illustrator to do the backside.

We also had to create some add ons for the campaign. These could be anything to give people as a way of saying thank you for supporting the event. I decided to have a t-shirt, and bumper sticker, I figure that there would be a good amount of exposure for the event with people wearing them, and having the logo on their cars.

We also had to design a black and white newspaper ad, and a website layout for the event. I like the way the newspaper ad came out, I wanted to use the pallet because it was a recognizable graphic image and people would be able to connect it with the event.
My next class doesn't start until April 6, so I have a nice little break. I'll be busy moving everything to the downstairs, and painting and cleaning to make the upstairs rentable. Hopefully I will be able to get some fun things in, and I'll post them here. Ciao!

Gamer Boy

Hello there, I have been busy these past few days visiting the Orient. In my Design and Technology class, we had to design CD packaging. I made up a client called, Crystal Visions, which was a video game software company. One of the first things I did was create a logo, I used the font Endor, and a crystal formation as the V. The logo is one of my favorites, I think it looks crystalline and gamer worthy. I then came up with the idea of making a demo package for two upcoming games, Dark Journey and Legends. I have always thought about being a designer for games and things, so it was a lot of fun working on this. I took elements from various games I have played like Tomb Raider and The Elder Scrolls series, for my made up games. We had to make a Jewel Case, a CD sleeve, CD label, and a panel insert.

How Electrifying

Howdy! Just got back from doing the Penguin Plunge, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would. It was a lot of fun and I got a nice hat from it! I've been working on my final project for my Corporate Identity class. We had to find a local small business and design a new logo for them. I asked Tim's dad, who owns Ray's Electric. It took a while to come up with one that wasn't your typical electrical logo. I used the electrical symbol for power in the R, and then mirrored the outlet shape in the middle. We also had to make illustrations demonstrating how the logo may be used in various products.
